The Irish Society of Paramedicine (ISP) is a staff-driven, independent professional body established to represent and support all those working in pre-hospital emergency care across Ireland. We exist to give a strong, unified voice to our colleagues in a profession that continues to evolve, grow, and face significant demands.
We are not a trade union, nor are we affiliated with any. Instead, we are a collaborative network of emergency medical technicians (EMTs), paramedics, advanced paramedics (APs), community and pathfinder paramedics, supervisors, and retired professionals, working together to support, inform, and empower one another.
For too long, paramedics have lacked a professional, independent body that truly represents their clinical realities and frontline challenges. While trade unions negotiate on pay and industrial matters, the ISP focuses on the professional voice—ensuring that clinical staff are respected, represented, and protected as the demands on our sector increase.
We have stood up when it mattered—submitting formal letters to the Minister for Health and every TD, conducting votes of no confidence, and publishing survey data when our members felt unheard. We have challenged decisions made without consultation, and we have pushed for recognition of all grades, including the often-overlooked supervisor cohort.
To unite, advocate, and advance the paramedicine profession in Ireland by:
Representing all clinical grades equally and fairly
Promoting professional excellence, education, and development
Acting as a platform for the voices of frontline practitioners
Supporting the mental, emotional, and professional wellbeing of our members
Engaging with key stakeholders, including government, unions, management, and the public
We proudly support members from every corner of Ireland and every clinical level:
Emergency medical technicians (EMTs)
Paramedics
Advanced paramedics (APs)
Community and specialist paramedics
Supervisors
Interns and students
Retired professionals
Every role matters. Every voice counts. We are committed to equal representation and inclusion across the board.
